But you have to! This city has way too much to do for it’s own good. So, tonight we had three events that we could attend. Andrew invited us to go with he and Katie to this free jazz concert at Lincoln Center, we had planned on going to see Ian Axel and some other people play at Rockwood Music Hall, and I learned yesterday that Philip Glass (one of the most influential composers in the minimalist movement) was playing at the Apple Store SoHo tonight! We couldn’t go to the Philip Glass, sadly, because we had an apartment to look at; I’ll get to that. So, we went to see Ian at Rockwood Music Hall; before the show we ate at this diner next door, where Rachel and I both got breakfast; she had an omelet and I had a salmon bagel…mmmm! The people that played tonight were amazing!!!!! We actually miss Ian’s three song set (who was the person we went to see), but he played with the other three, so it was ok. The first girl, Amber Rubarth was a lot like Regina Spektor; the next guy, Joey Ryan, was good as well, he was in Manhattan for a month from his home in LA; the last performer we saw, Greg Holden, was from London and moved hear about a year ago. They all intermingled into each others’ sets, and there were other players (drummers, bassist, and a badass cellist!). The venue was amazing as well; there were like over a hundred people in this maybe 20x20 room, and when we left there was a huge line to get in for the remaining groups. The music here is incredulous!
As for the aforementioned apartment, we looked at two sublets today, one on 56th and 2nd, and the other on 86th and 1st. The first was as small as the hotel room I’m sitting in right now, which you saw if you have been following this trip. The other was pretty big, considering it’s studio status. Both were $1,300/month, but the renter of the second pays $1,425/month (they wanted $1,500), but he is paying the difference because he has to be out by Feb. 1st to move in with his girlfriend in Boston. So, if I hear good news from Apple tomorrow (which I hope to God that i do), then we just might be applying for that apartment.
